We love to hunt

by Fr. Jeff

“Guys, what are we doing out here?”

The rain was coming down hard. The waterproof camouflage jackets weren’t doing their job–we were soaked to the bone. The mosquitos were determined to bleed us to death, and the sun wasn’t even out yet.

“Man, we sure do love ducks!” One of the guys was reminding us why we were standing on a levee in the middle of a rice field at 6am.

I noticed some small connection to Your priestly ministry:

If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes astray, will he not leave the ninety-nine in the hills and go in search of the stray? And if he finds it, amen, I say to you, he rejoices more over it than over the ninety-nine that did not stray. In just the same way, it is not the will of your heavenly Father that one of these little ones be lost. –Matthew 18:12-14

Priesthood isn’t always comfortable. We go out to hunt for the lost to bring them back to You. Often, it can be at inopportune times in unpleasant conditions. But there is one thing that always brings us back year after year:

we love to hunt.
