Spiritual chauffeur

by Fr. Jeff

Father, my driver’s license says I’m not supposed to drive after dark.

She had waited to talk to me after Mass. I looked outside and saw that it was already dark.

“I’ll be fine,” she said.

“No!” I insisted: “I won’t let you drive at night. Why don’t I drive you?”

She was genuinely shocked at my suggestion. “Well, it would make me feel better,” she finally relented.

As I helped her into her Camry, my parents pulled up behind me. They would follow me to her house and give me a ride afterwards.

Mom called out the window, “Everyone loves to be chauffeured!”

Now I can add it to the priestly job description:

spiritual chauffeur.
