My vocation is to love!

by Fr. Jeff

After the bell rang, they began to pour into the classroom. “Hey Fr. Jeff!” they all seemed to say. They were excited. For a few days, the 7th and 8th grade classes had been collecting questions about vocations. I was there to answer them.

“How old were you when you first wanted to be a priest?”
“How do you know what God is calling you to do?”
“Can I know my vocation at my age?”

I stayed for nearly half the day answering their myriad of questions. But there there was one that stuck with me all day:

If I am not called to a religious vocation, how can I still serve the Church?

I turn to an old friend for the simple yet beautiful answer:

There is but one thing for us to do in the night of this life and that is to love, to love Jesus with all the energy of our heart and to save souls so that He may be loved by them. O let us cause Jesus to be loved by men! -St. Thérèse of Lisieux

Love is my vocation. Love is your vocation.
