Great temptation. Great grace

by Fr. Jeff

I’ve always believed that each moment of temptation provides a great opportunity for grace.

There was no scheduled Mass on my calendar today. After a busy afternoon and evening, my body wanted to call it quits sans Mass. I guess part of our struggle is that we forget how Your people want to have someone pray for them.

Great Temptation.

But words from my patron gave me courage:

Where sin increased, grace overflowed all the more. –Romans 5:20.

I relied on grace to resist the temptation of omission. A simple post on Facebook was the antidote:

I’m celebrating Mass in 15 minutes: prayer requests welcome.

In fifteen minutes there were 29 responses. By the time I began Mass: 45.

As I prayed with those intentions and offered them to Your sacred heart, I hoped that I was making a difference. I smiled when I came to today’s Communion Antiphon:

Amen, I say to you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you will receive, and it shall be given to you, says the Lord. –Mark 11:23-24

Great grace.

An opportunity to neglect prayer turned into a beautiful opportunity for ministry. Today, I thank You for

Great temptation. Great grace.
